Final Exhibition Game Tonight; One Week Till Season Opens

Tonight, the Steelers face the Panthers in the last pre-season game of the year. I expect the starters to play one series and then make way for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams. Once the starters exit, the battles for roster spots will begin. As previously written about here, the player I am most interested in is return man Stefan Logan. A couple good returns tonight will result in him making the squad. A dropped kick or fumble could be devastating. Other players to watch to see who fills out the 53 man roster are:

1) The defensive backs: we could keep 9 or possibly 10 dbacks this season. Watch for Joe Burnett, Anthony Madison and Keiwan Ratliff to battle it out for the final corner slot. Also, keep an eye on Ryan Mundy. If he makes the team, it is likely curtains for Ryan Clark after the season. Also, veteran Tyrone Carter probably won't make the team.

2) Backup LB-Patrick Bailey, Donavon Woods, Andre Frazier, Arnold Harrison are all fighting for a backup spot. Check out how each plays on special teams. Special team play will make the difference for these guys because that is where they will get the majority of their playing team. Our coverage units were excellent last season and we need that to continue.

3) Offensive Line- Ramon Foster, Tony Hills, Legursky, AQ Shipley, Cappizzi and Parquet are in the mix to be the backups. See who is getting any push tonight

I am just praying for no one to get hurt and can't wait for next week when the regular season opens.

Any comments on who makes the sqaud?

I have to disagree on a couple of those. Tyrone Carter is a lock to make the team. He's the only experienced back up safety. I think Logan has the team made unless he fumbles multiple times.

I think the biggest battles are the bubble special teams players (Arnold Harrison, Patrick Bailey, Donovan Woods). Other than that, Tomlin probably knows 51 of the 53 starters.

Things I saw from the last two games (This is Scerbo, btw)...

3rd and short - steez are in the gun again - I hate this. At least make em think you might run the ball.

I really hope they can find a way to keep Logan and Redman. Maybe they'll finally realize that Carey Davis sucks.
